I recently came across the following method for automotive repair. Has anyone applied this method to kayaking? :P http://www.mutnica.edu.yu/krstenje.jpg --------------------------------------------------------------- Please limit all email attachments sent to this address to a maximum of 0.5MB. Probably, after the purchase of the car. The similar ritual for a kayak would be smashing a bottle of shampagne into the hull, - and then, I would agree, it might need some repairs... *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Hi Folks, Comet McNaught is giving a stunning light show at the moment. Not out paddling, but the view from my (house) deck is amazing, with the low cloud that has hung around clearing to a clean sky, with little light-pollution to degrade the display. Next showing, 85,000 years! The Spaceweather photo gallery has updated its site with more photos. Lots of photos from NZ and Australia. The photos are filed by date so some of the new images are interspersed with already submitted photos. Some really spectacular shots. Would make a wonderful sunset paddle event, I think (I don't know how much longer it will be visible). We didn't get the kind of show in California you guys are getting. No fair! Mike who missed the comet in the Great White North due to cloudy weather. Not much white this year though. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Not much to see tonight, thick cloud cover which doesn't look like it will move away. Hi Mike, Maybe the light shows are some consolation for being so far away from all the great forums you have up your way! Having said that, we have a mini-forum this weekend, and our national one next month. Nigel Foster will be out for a month, so he and Kristen should get to have a good look around. I'll be stealing coaching ideas, as I always do. The mini forum is always good fun, but tiring as I'm always instructing with little time to socialise, but I will work on getting a better balance this time. It is not just the temporary events (actually we did poorly with Comet Hale-Bopp and generally with the Leonids meteor shower) but we southerners have the best night skies all the time! Down here the Milky Way is high overhead in the winter, not some hazy object low on the horizon. We also have the Magellanic Clouds this time of year and the best globular clusters. We also have far less atmospheric haze and it is easier to get away from light-polluted regions. Yet another reason to come down here for a paddle! I knew there was something I forgot to gripe about :-) The furthest south I've been was the March '88 eclipse trip to Mindanao island in the Philippines. I set up my telescope one night and stood in awe of these southern wonders. I've been wanting to get to NZ and Oz for a long time but distance and cost make it out of the question for a while. Eventually I'll find a way and paddle those legendary waters. A recent episode of Planet Earth (BBC/CBC co-production narrated by David Attenborough) showed some interesting areas that looked like a paddling adventure - the Kimberly area (IIRC) in northern Australia. Apparently it's quite out of the way - anyone paddled there?
