Thanks for the summary John,

About 7:30am Monday 12th February the New Zealand rescue authorities decided
to resume the search with two fixed wing aircraft. Conditions are described
as ideal for the search.

Because Andrew's PFD was not in the boat there is hope that he is wearing it
and is floating and visible.

>From the start the searchers calculated for Andrews drift and based their
search on his likely position but they have also searched a much wider area
as well.

Water temperature is between 15 to 18 degrees Centigrade. NOAA forecasts
swell of 1m to 2m and 10 second period, wind 10 to 15 knots. This has been
pretty stable during the last few days.

When the boat was first spotted from the air it appeared to have the cockpit
cover visible. It was known that one of the supporting levers had been
damaged. The hatch opening to the rear of the boat is inside the cockpit,
not on the deck and the hatch cover is missing.

Give my regards to Dave he is well connected in the Australian kayaking
world and hopefully can provide more information.

Peter

The NZ authorities extended the search another 12 hours but it is now
finished and with no sign of Andrew. The conditions were windier than
anticipated with whitecaps spoiling vision. Several private planes also
joined in the search.

The NSWSKC to which Andrew belonged has a press release

http://www.nswseakayaker.asn.au/

I'll hand over to those of you who have access to Dave Winkworth as he may
have more detail.

Thanks for the concerns and information, it helps us in Oz to know the
kayaking community understood what Andrew was trying to do and why.

We have followed Andrew's expedition closely, and were with him all the way.

Our hearts go out to wife Vicki, son Finlay, and the NSW Sea Kayak Club.

We salute Andrew McAuley.

Just to let you know there's a service for Andrew next Monday at 2pm at the
Macquarie Lighthouse overlooking the Tasman Sea. The details are on his
website where Andrew's wife Vicki has also released the last two photographs
and location map taken from his boat. The mountains of NZ are clearly
visible.
