Being a large sized person can have it's disadvantages, but I really didn't
need Duane Strosaker creating another one for me!!!
I got to attend the party at Duane's house tonight where he debuted his
newest home designed and built kayak. So along with food, great music from
Steve Wilson and kayak talk with great people, I got to check out one of the
coolest kayaks I'll never fit into!!!
Duane has been teasing us all for a couple months about this new design. His
only hint was that it was somehow based on a car!?! So when we finally got
to look in his garage we were treated to a sporty, Ferrari yellow little
number he calls the Mini Benny. I guess you could say it was inspired by
crossing his Point Bennett design with a Mini Cooper.
As I have been playing more in the surf lately, I have realized that having
17 feet of kayak is not always that neccessary. I've beeen dreaming of a
nimble play boat along the lines of a Mariner Coaster and Duane's design
seems to fit in that mold. But don't take my word for it, go check out the
pictures on his website.
I'm hoping maybe he can alter the design and add a couple more feet of
volume for us larger paddlers. I can't wait to get out on the water and see
it in action.
