A friend of a friend with good skills, fitness and judgement is
interested in paddling from Key West to the Dry Tortugas and is
seeking links/info about this trip. She is a Watertribe member and
has successfully completed the Everglades Challenge several times.
This trip concerns me and I would like to help her gather info so she
can make as sound decision as possible. Any info/links/magazine
articles would be greatly appreciated.

It is a long 70 miles with only the Marquesas Islands about half way. We
put our kayaks on the roof of the fast ferry and spent 4 days at Ft
Jefferson paddling around.

Besides whats thrown at you by mother nature, there were 2 or 3 boat loads
of Cubans landing every night and we were told by the rangers to be very
careful.

Didn't realize there was a crossing - thought it was just the Dry Tortugas.

Maybe it's the Dry Tortugas because you can't buy booze there.
