There was a discussion a while back about the ethics of copying someone's hull design. Is that still available on this server some how or would anyone like to refresh the discussion? I was wondering how people feel about it in regards to people building their own personal boat at home, not for production or sale. If you like a design well enough to copy it, it is appropriate to approach the designer. There is a difference between carefully pulling the lines off a specific boat and attempting to match those lines as exactly as practical and taking a boat, getting some gross measurements and using what you learned from studying the boat as a basis for your own design. Using an existing boat as an inspiration for a new one has a long and happy tradition. Just making a copy of someone else's design is frowned upon.
