If it makes Mark feel better:

I went out Saturday morning, at the river jetties in Newport beach. I was
paddling my Mega Impulse ( super fun little surf boat. I keep a boat in
Southern California, at my Mother in law's house.) Some nice steep set
waves, not huge but big enough and with plenty of power. Surfed for an hour
or so, getting some fast wall rides over a shallow sandbar. There was peak
nearby with small, but honest to god tubes. About 25 surfers all jostling
for the same takeoff, so I avoided it.

Catch a big wave, drop in, cut down the line, go for a big tail slash at the
lip, pearl through the bottom of the wave and bounce the nose of my boat off
the bottom. Doh! A little smashed up. Repairable, but not surfable
without repair. No swims, but a busted up Kevlar boat. Bummer too, since
Sunday was supposed to be better than saturday....

Luckily it was my old, already been broken boat, so it wasn't as sad as I
would have been if it was my *new* Kevlar boat.

Geoff
