Bob and All, I did the short wide blade thing for a while, and then I found I liked the narrower blades in either Euro or Greenland styles better for distance and camping loads. It's surprising how little blade surface you really need. I build my own paddles nowadays, so I can't really recommend a specific factory paddle.
