I failed to mention the Foil Simulator in my last post. you will fiond it at
http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/foil2.html

The nice thing is that you can compare foil shapes, flat plates, and
elliptical shapes. Lots of fun.

Peter will find the pages on erroneous lift theories useful. :-)

Plotting the travel would be illuminating (Nick, did you not do something
like this a while back?).

I tried plotting it based on some film and it showed that any thrust
generated by lift was acting at an angle to the desired thrust direction
and, as a result, was efficient. Mind you, I have no idea if this "expert"
really knew what he was doing.

This is one of those areas where a good test device composed of recording
load cells attached to the paddle, seat and foot pegs would be useful. Bruce
Winterbon had some good ideas on this at one point but got involved in other
things. I could not get anyone to donate the use of the equipment and lost
interest as well since I didn't use a GP and saw no reason to devote time to
proving my choice right or wrong since i like it just fine.

Cheers

John Winters
