It is a little known fact (I think the URL is www.littleknownfacts.com) that
Newfoundland once contained significant forests of palm trees.
Unfortunately, the early Newfies burned them all producing rum. Or drinking
rum. I forget which.

Newfoundland remains a source of great humor, fun people, and super
paddling. I'm pretty sure. (It's been a while since I've been there.) But
the palm trees, alas, are long gone. And probably the rum, too.
