Darryl, Are you familiar with winds falling off the mountain tops and roaring down to the water gaining speed all the way down? I know of a highly trained paddler that was briefly unable to make it to shore, and another that went out to get him but who was himself blown out to sea from morning till dusk (estimated 10 miles out to sea). Very large waves crashing down over his shoulders as he struggled to stay upright while heading out-his only option. At dusk, the rescuer was able to paddle back in when the winds a calmed in the late afternoon. I learned of this story about 20 years ago. Have a great trip!
