Even if it does come back, it now has cancer. It may work for an hour, day
or even a longer but it will die, and it will choose to do this at the time
that it is the most inconvenient to you. If you can retrieve any of the
pictures on the memory card do so, and then go shopping for a new camera.

Our cig pack type Cannon digital camera was in a Cannon underwater
housing... and was taken into the ocean today... by someone my 17 year old
son was with... and the housing became "about half full of water".
<snip>
I suspect it is done for... but does anyone else have any other suggestions?
(I cannot see any value in sending it to Cannon.... in my experience most of
the electronics companies cannot fix things for a reasonable fee.... )
