I wish only to speak to items 2 and 4. We were off the Southern tip of
Trial Island. It was a typical beautiful day in Victoria BC, bright sun,
light winds and a small flotilla of Navy ships out. They were steering what
one old navy hand deduced was a sub hunting pattern. After a while the
ships (3) started to converge on this one area not far off our port bow.

The old salt then suggested if anyone had hot dogs now would be a good time
to pull them out and hold them up as the micro wave activity or broadcast
from the ships might actually be high enough to cook the dogs.

Not having any tubular steaks we were unable to test the theory. Later in
the local watering hole the question of how long would you have to hold the
dog aloft in order for it to be cooked by microwave transmissions from the
ships came up. Such questions frequently come up within the kayaking
community of Victoria. They're reflections of the curious intellect of the
local paddling fraternity. Eventually calculations were being made on table
napkins, someone was trying to account for and factor out radiation from the
sun from the cooking equation. It was at about this time that I spotted an
old female acquaintance and left to pursue more mundane matters. I believe
the remaining gentlemen may still be in the pub should anyone wish to delve
deeper in the mysteries of Canada's hot dog navy.
