subject: [Paddlewise] Drysuit Sizes - Medium-Tall?

I have been looking at various drysuit models. It is most likely that my ideal fit would be a "medium-tall" size. Sadly, most offer only small, medium, large, and extra large. Is there a brand that offers "medium tall" that I have overlooked? I have a Neil Pride wetsuit that is a medium-tall, and the fit is perfect. Although a drysuit has a looser fit, I am looking for a similar size match. Is this achievable? Or do I have to buy a "large" an accept the fact that the fit is going to be a little bit "baggy?" Or, alternatively, do I have to pay a $fortune$ for something that is customize made?

Height and weight?

I am a nice MT size but a L drysuit is not too bad. I have a Stohlquist that is
pretty wide, but am thinking of switching to a Kokatat. I think a Level6 might
be pretty good if you can find one. I tried an M and an XL this year and from
that I think the L would be pretty good.

Derek,

George Gronseth of www.kayakacademy.com is well reknowned for his ability to fit a drysuit specifically to a person. He carries Kokatat. I've personally not availed myself of his service but so many of my friends have and the raves he gets are quite credible. The deal with Kokatat is they are made here in the states and measurements given to them would be easier to carry out than most places. Especially for non Mandarin speakers.

Cheers,

Rob G

I don't know what the prices are these days, but the people at
Ravenspring in the UK will make a custom fit drysuit for you at no
additional cost over a "standard" size suit. You send them the
measurements and they decide whether to give you an off-the-shelf
model or to make one up to fit you.

http://www.ravenspring.co.uk/system/index.html

If you email them (address on their web page), you can discuss the
details of your measurement and send them additional measurements to
cover and area that isn't covered in the short list of "standard"
measurements provided on the web page.

Back when I ordered mine, the USA companies such as Kokatat were
calling a custom suit one in which they added an inch to the arm and
leg measurements. Hopefully, they've caught on to the fact that some
of us require somewhat more customization than that.

My Ravenspring, at the time, and including the delivery charges from
England, was competitively priced with what was available from the
North American companies. But that was several years ago, and things
may have changed.
