Hi all,

I've been spending a fair bit of time working on *Ad Hoc*, my kayaking
mothership (or, as I like to think of it, the muthah-ship). One of the major
flaws in the boat was some dry rot that had destroyed the original mahogany
trim on the port side above the old dinette. I took a Japanese-style
draw-saw to the trim and cut the piece at a 45-degree angle. Then I took
some mahogany I had and created a piece that would match it - more or less -
and cut the end at 45-degree. After prepping the old wood under the trim I
screwed the new piece in and finished it with spar varnish. It turned out
that the new piece was somewhat darker than the old piece so I decided to
blend the two with a nice ship's clock mounted over the scarf joint.

You can also see part of the new dinette table that I build - complete with
teak fiddles. I intend to fiddle all counters because it has been my
experience that rocking and rolling, while nowhere near the problem it was
in my youth, can still knock stuff off the counters if they don't have
fiddles. I've always believed that fiddles also make any boat look more
nautical, anyway.

Feedback is always nice. A 25-foot boat doesn't offer much room for
alterations but there is always room for new ideas.
