Derek, I primarily use my SPOT for day tripping too. I have programmed the "HELP" button's message to say I'm delayed because of weather and will remain here for 24 hours. My wife knows not to call for help unless I am overdue not because I didn't send an OK message. Last week I was launching from difficult surf location and she got worried because I didn't send OK messages. Tracking was turned on but she forgot how to get to the web site. A worried message on my cell phone alerted me to call after I landed. I'll send her OK's from now on. Next week I'll be on a 3 day trip to Black Canyon on the Colorado River.
