Several years ago, we did a trip with Eskape Sea Kayaking (highly recommended) on Tomales Bay, then spent a few days in the Monterey area. We signed up for the Monterey Bay Kayaks guided bay tour, then found ourselves in doubles (ugh). The trip started out fine, but as it progressed the bay got rougher. At one point, we were supposed to be rafted up listening to a naturalist talk. Our "raft" resembled a rug being shaken out ___ ____ _/ \___/ \_ (apologies to Jackie) so the guides decided it was time to head in. One guide paddled in first and stationed herself in waist deep water in the moderate shore break. As Meg and I were coming in we accelerated into a controlled surf. No problem, except the guide decided that we should slow down, so she grabbed our bow loop as we came by. The ensuing carnage is left to the imagination of the reader.
