As I paddle and mothership around the San Juan Islands I notice that
virtually all the guided tours have the clients in doubles. I guess this is
understandable as a double typically offers greater primary stability when
the great unknown is the paddling experience of the clients. It also means
fewer boats in the stable and, on the water, fewer boats to keep track of.

Maybe the trick is to rent kayaks first... then sign up for a guided tour.
