I was mooching around on paddlingplanet.com (which is a compendium of blogs) and stumbled across a posting about a guy who has a family pass to Canada's museum that hosts canoes and kayaks. Since I'm an old guy and have little to do, I went to the blog and read his posting and then noticed this: "For your viewing pleasure, below is the NFB production of Cisar's Bark Canoe. Even on the original, there is no narration; just Cisar Newashish himself demonstrating the techniques of birchbark canoe building." This is the link and he's right... there is audio but virtually no talking. It is not a short clip as the video is pretty detailed but it's very interesting for those of us who enjoy ancient boatbuilding techniques. I was particularly interested to discover that he sheaths the inside of his canoe with think strips of cedar. Oh, and one more thing, I could see no evidence of power tools. In fact the only tools he uses were a knife (quite sharp), a hammer and a brace and bit. Right up Duane Strosaker's alley. :) http://www.paddlinginstructor.com/blog/88888941/1943-torontos-royal-ontario-m useum-kayak-tour.html It seemed worthwhile to share with Paddlewisers.
