For the digital camera enthusiast there is at least one really good, honest, site: dpreview.com Some time back they had a waterproof camera test, and you can yourself watch the test video clips (the test concerns mainly still picture taking, so the final conclusions are not weighed towards movie taking, but the comments about their video capacity is very pertinent anyway - eventually they thought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 the best for movies, for overall performance it shared first place with the Canon PowerShot D10, which is better if you decide to use it as proper underwater camera): http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterproofgroup/ - - - - - Amazon have two other possible candidates (that I can think of just now): "Flip Video Ultra High Definition Camcorder" (which needs a waterproof encasing, but otherwise is small, rugged, and takes very good HD movies, I'm told.) which could be strapped to a small mast behind the paddler easily! A waterproof box made out of plexiglas (aka perspex, or acrylic) should be easy to make, and some variants of Flip can record long clips :-)! Zoom makes a similar item, but with even better sound recording (note that waterproof enclosures cut off most sounds very efficiently). "Sanyo VPC-WH1EYL HD Waterproof Dual Video & Photo Camera" seems like another candidate, but is bigger, and heavier - don't know how good that is, though. If you plan to mount anything on a mast I would hesitate to attach anything heavy, the risk for the item to be lost is then very high, if you roll your kayak, while strapped to the deck things are slightly simpler :-)!
