I don't know if we are all that hard core--after all we did not have a chainsaw or even an axe with us. It was supposed to be 10 C but instead we had a bit of precip. "The good news is that it isn't rain!" I shouted. Later it was, but it was all quite light until we were loading the cars and then it turned to serious sleet--that was not nice at all. The ledge we were crossing in the pic is the 1st or 2nd of a series called "staircase" and the only trick is to ensure you haven't picked up a load of water before you hit the 3rd (biggest) one. It is an easy little warm up river, and we all surfed a bit at one place or another. With the water at 0-1 C the playing was limited. I think there are several of those playboaters who can roll (one went over 90-degrees --unplanned-- and brought it back on one of the ledges). The guy in the video did it just to do it--but it chilled the rest of us just to watch. Fortunately that was 100 yards from the takeout. I might go back to trying that kind of boating, but while my time is limited I like to work on my tripping skills--hence the big boat. I might take one of the Club's boats down there another time--just for the fun of a tandem that will spin around with half the effort. I paddle with this partner again he would prefer that, because he does whitewater on day trips and longer trips generally on the flat, so my Yellow Submarine was a bit faster and slower to turn than he was used to.
