David,

I don't know when you tried the LV but I believe I read that they have beefed up the skeg blade and changed the type of cord used and my wife's works flawlessly.  There is a nuance in using it.  1. Use your thumb to push forward on the skeg slider, 2. Hold the button in while sliding to desired position.
