We have tragedies every year where a family drives to a beautiful and isolated beach near a small road and someone is killed in the surf and rips. Something that really puzzles me is that often its the kids that get into trouble then a parent attempts to rescue them, yet the kid somehow finds their way to safety and the parent dies. Don't have any statistically significant figures but there seems to be a pattern. Popular beaches often have a surf life saving club and/or marked areas to swim that are relatively safe, and those clubs also do a superb job in teaching kids water safety. Best wishes Doug' to you and your family, Peter *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
