Debra, Barb, Ken and I went for a late morning paddle this first day of
summer in the O.C. I was a couple minutes late and found Barb and Debra
roasting in their drysuits ready for some rolling. I told them they'd
have to wait till BAR because I was looking for the high tide to let me
play a bit. As usual, as soon as we hit the water, the cool breeze made
every thing hunky dory.

Mild conditions on the way allowed me to play a bit in the rocks and I
found myself high and dry a few times. LAR was still to dry for a pass,
so it was on to BAR where I spent a while in the arch dealing with the
active Barcuzzis. Ken was out rolling while D&B gabbed.

Soon I move on to my new obsession in the BAR area, a place I call Chute
Rock. It has an angled table reef that if you make it over the high
side, it gives you a nice slide across. Tide was a bit low to make it
over the edge and if you try to do it on too big of a wave, it can get a
bit messy, so I took a while making a few false attempts and trying to
gauge the swells. Finally I saw a nice size wave coming and decided to
go for broke. Missed it by THAT much!! The bow of my boat drove into the
rock in a rather violent collision that left the Sapsucker with a new
pig nose bow! I decided the time just wasn't right and paddled around to
the other side to play in the current.

Done with the ocean, we all headed back to the harbor for some rescue
work. Inspired by the SD crowd, we tried a few HOGs although no one
wanted to do one on me! We rolled till we were cold and called it a day
and went to warm up with the chips and salsa at El Matador!
