Yet another reason to wear a PFD: a snowboarder fell off a bridge into the Poplar River at Lutsen, Minnesota, on Sunday. I shouted out and put on the breaks when I saw him fall in (at 2:32 of the vid - up ahead on the left - take it one frame at a time), fearing the worst, but he was up and out of the river immediately, unharmed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVRmXWvQXCk After Thursday's pinned kayak recovery, it's now got me wondering if I am a jinx causing others to have less than enjoyable dates with the Naiads. Years back, I got blown off the water kayaking on Slocan Lake in the interior of BC. I was rigging a tarp to have lunch under, which involved scuttling up a slope to run a line over a tree branch. On the way back down, I slipped on a wet tree root and my legs shot out from under me. I landed hard on my back with the root midway between my pelvis and neck. Even with the PFD on, I was bruised and winded - without it, I believe it would have snapped my back - which would have been awkward, since I was touring solo. ---- Original Message ---- From: Richard Culpeper <culpeper_at_tbaytel.net> To: 'Paddlewise' <Paddlewise_at_paddlewise.net> Sent: Mon, Apr 18, 2011 11:40 am Subject: [Paddlewise] Yet another reason to wear a PFD Yet another reason to wear a PFD: a snowboarder fell off a bridge into the Poplar River at Lutsen, Minnesota, on Sunday.
