I posted a story about rules for us on the northern border, but it was
blocked.

It showed up about 20 minutes later. I am not at all happy about closing our
borders down!! The USCG already had too much power pullboats over for no
reason for a so-called "inspection" and now it's completely out of hand.
Even state cops need probable cause to pull a car over; they can't just do
it because they want to do a "safety inspection. It's like living in East
Germany.

I need more coffee..

How ya doing out there?

Maybe I should have read the article first... looks like it's those darned
Canadians this time around. Gee, and they used to be so easy to get along
with, too.

I hear Mexico wants tourists... I wonder if they've relaxed *their* border
crossing requirements.

My wife noticed that there seems to be many fewer BC vehicles on the roads
here in along Interstate 90 in central WA state. I wonder if there is some
tit-for-tat going on amongst bureaucrats. The article also mentioned that
some Canadian border areas do not require boaters to check in if they do not
land or anchor but that others do and that there seems to be confusion on
both sides.

Golly, imagine that, confusion among government entities. There's a twist.

More coffee...

Has anybody been pulled over yet by the highway patrol for invasive species
inspection? Or am I worrying needlessly?

of yet. Pam tried to find a place to be inspected a while back on a trip to
the southern end of Lake Coeur d'Alene and couldn't so she didn't launch.
And was somewhat miffed about the whole deal. Last summer I was on a bike
trip to the I-90 area near the Montana border and watched several trailered
boats just drive right past the inspection station set up for west-bound
cars on I-90 but I didn't see anyone come out after them. They had a couple
boats in there for inspection and might not have seen the cars go by.

Seems silly to require it for canoes and kayaks although I suppose it's
remotely possible for a kayak with a rudder to have invasive species
attached. If you have no rudder I don't think it's much of a concern but
they don't discriminate.

So... let me get this straight... they don't actually INSPECT your kayak but
just charge you for a permit? And you're supposed to keep it on your boat
regardless of what waters you've been to in the interim?
