Orignally it was a quite an informal club but over the years has developed a culture of providing a high standard of education to its members. So it has to be registered as an education provider and follow appropriate operating procedures. The club paddler grading is according to paddler skills and integrates with the qualifications of the club instructors who are nationally accredited by Australian Canoeing. In the old days we still had paddler grading but it wasn't so strongly linked to specific skills and much more linked to weather and sea state. I very much appreciated the old grading as it gave me as a novice paddler some guidelines for the sort of trip I could undertake either solo or in a group. But of course both approaches have their place. Feels strange and very good to be back on Paddlewise and receiving email. Its been about 15 to 20 years since I last used Hotmail but it has improved no end.
