With all my friends abandoning their sea kayaks for longer, skinnier boats, I was forced to go out and by my own surfski. Today was my third day out in my newtome Fenn Mako XT. I'd gone out the harbor yesterday for the first time and I was surprised my muscles didn't seem too sore today, but that was until I got in the boat again today! Still, Ken and I headed out again into a three foot swell. As someone used to big kayaks and a giant backband, this ski stuff is going to take some getting used to, but it does seem a bit more carefree lifestyle out on the water. A fun new challenge, but I'll be hanging on to my sea kayaks. The XT is a nice comfy boat, a little twitchy in flats but it firms up nicely in some chop. Welcome to the sit on top, I mean surfski world. We're headed out for a hopeful downwind tomorrow - about a dozen miles. The more wind the less time, the better time, and better stories ;-) The tentative crew is 3 Epic V8s, an Epic V12 and a Huki S1X.
