For me, the paring increases my likelihood of reading somebody's reply
on PW.

If someone went to the trouble to edit and craft their response to
address the sense of the original message, I feel like they have made an
effort to be part of the dialog.  My pet peeve is people who have a two
word, usually flippant reply, and paste in several repeated messages.

Sure, it takes another 10 - 20 seconds to do, but I think that's the
idea behind one of these lists.  I suspect people "listen" to a posting
better if it seems the poster made an effort to get his/her point
across.  So I like it when people do what George describes in the top
paragraph.
