Geo Bergeron noted that

Decent heart rate monitors run about $100 these days. The book is
available online: www.humankinetics.com
..............
If you also use a speedometer,
http://www.dc.infi.net/~spdtech/index.html

then you can observe how your stroke/boat, bio, wind/current and lots of
other stuff contribute to what's happening.

The speedometer helped me to see that my stroke was weaker on one side, and
where paddle stroke placement is most efficient relative to the bow wave.

For a fixed pulse rate, the pulse rate monitor shows that a 8kt head wind
slows me by a couple of tenths of a kt/hr.

These gagets are fun...
there are a few local races...
real paddlers blow my doors off...
i sure thank the wing paddle folks who throw water into the air to cool me
off as they pass.

bye bye bliven
