everything ;-)

a little bit of background is good, then make sure you repeat those key
points later in the local presentation.

how about: "when i was there, the weather was like xxxxx, i later learned,
(i was there at the best/worst time) or "beforehand, i learned zzzzzzz,
and when i got there, it was really wwwwwwww"

15-20 minutes if covered well, 30 if covered VERY well, if there's a mix
of types of paddling [ie whitewater/flatwater/sea kayaking]. otherwise 20
min max seems about right.

i vote for video, with a good sound remix if possible...

Julio, I'd like information on the paddling and the place. Weather
conditions and best times to paddle are both good to include. I'd prefer
slides over a video because they give you a better opportunity to explain a
lot of things with each slide. I've found that, though some presentations
have some really great photographs, the things that make a presentation
really memorable are the stories behind each photo and the presentation
abilities of the presenter. In any event, good luck. You may find you
really like it and suddenly have a new career.

The Southern Maine Sea Kayaking Network is a group of about 110 sea kayakers
that get together to paddle, have winter slide shows, practice solo and
group rescue in pools and lakes, and generally connect with each other to
share the sport and joy of paddling in the Gulf of Maine. We have a
quarterly newsletter and an information phone line that we use to keep
members informed of what the group is doing and of resources available to
both members and non-members. Members are mainly from Maine, New Hampshire,
and Massachusetts in the U.S. and Quebec in Canada. We also have a handful
of members in the midwest who vacation in Maine. Our primary purposes are
to promote safe and responsible practices, facilitate member connections to
share paddling, and support members' efforts to improve their kayaking
abilities and expand their limits.

If you'd like more information about The Southern Maine Sea Kayaking
Network, e-mail me your U.S. mail address and I'll send along a brochure and
a sample newsletter.
