I'd like to point out that we women have been forced to use sporting gear
and clothing designed and cut for men for years. I still have trouble
finding most types of clothing cut for women. I could complain for many
more sentences, but I'll cut it short here.

I might mention that Kokatat makes a full line of gear for women,
including drytops, wetsuits (new this year), and dry suits. There is even
a special woman friendly relieve zipper option available. In my club, we
have several womens kokatat drytops, which are much loved by the women I
have talked to. Also, Lotus makes a womens lifejacket cut to fit in the
right places. It looks like gear manufacturers are starting to catch on at
least a little bit.

Yes. But at least last year in order to get a women's drysuit from
Kokatat in the Washington DC area you had to special order it - not one
store carried the women's lines, and most didn't even know they existed.

Which is called the "Lola" and is being bought mostly by men because it's so
comfortable. Don't want to even guess why, but that's straight gouge!

Guess it takes a <real> man to wear a Lola over his skirt!

I won't get into that one. I did try the Lola but did not like that you
have to slip it over your head (it does have a side zipper, so it is not
as hard to do as one without a zipper entirely), which would be
difficult if you decided to take off some layers of clothing out on the
water. I didn't find it comfortable either. And I thought that the
larger pocket, being where it was--well to the side--could interfere
with some paddling styles. But I do know guys who like it as well as
women who don't. So here are two radically different styles of fine
PFDs, so one has a real choice, regardless of sex.

Thanks.
I'm sure when I'm ready to buy another I can find a better fit. Also the
women's stuff tends to sell out, and it's harder to find at a discount.

Back in the days when Extrasport was the "only" PFD manufacturer of
note, many women lobbied hard for a female-fitting PFD. At first they
said "good idea, but..." Then they said "we're working on it but..."
As many know, it finally happened. Extrasport came out with their
Ladie's Solution; Lotus with a Lola, Kokatat's MsFit and probably more
too.

Funny thing is that we sell many more of the "women's" PFDs to men
than to women! They're just that comfortable for MANY people. Maybe
the designers will learn from this experience and develop an even more
comfortable line of PFDs for everyone. They are on to something!
