Aug 98 (v15 no 3) issue of SeaKayaker. John Winters contributed the Essay 'How Fast Can a Kayak Go? Design for Speed' The article presents World Championship, K-1 500 meter sprint results from 1986 to present to support the proposition that given the constraints of racing rules, winning times are not likely to improve much due to improvements in hull or paddle design. John writes 'It is difficult to predict the direction of sea kayak design will take in the future. The development of racing kayaks is governed by racing rules, whereas recreational kayak design is free to follow its own course. My feeling is that the desire for improved performance will prompt more designers to adopt the sprint boat shape....' --------------- Well written article john. congratulations on a fine publication. have you got any fast rec kayaks on the drawing boards? bye bye bliven *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

I think several manufactures either have them underway or have them planned. I have done several for one-off construction (each to suit special needs) and the owners seem happy. Am going to build one myself this winter based on the sprint canoe that was disqualified at the worlds championships a few years back for giving an "unfair advantage".
