My ex-Romany's SN# is DKJ95581595. The hull is white, deck is blue. It has other permanent, distinguishing features that I will not divulge in case it turns up sans serial number. Fat chance. Thanks to all for their comiseration. After Noel's experience last year, I did insure the boat, but I wasnt able to get it completely covered. I'll probably have to cough up 3-4 hundred to get a new one. Maybe I'll get lucky and my home policy will cover what the boat policy wont but I doubt it.In the past 7 years in two states I've had a truck stolen and trashed, my house burglarized, and now my kayak stolen. This time was the only time I was insured. I highly recommend insuring your boat. FYI, the boat was stolen 25 feet from my open bedroom window, while I slumbered away. Mine is a boat-specific policy, but if I recall correctly it only covered me up to $2000, minus the deductible which I think is $50 or $100. It will cost me 23-2400 to replace. My agent was pretty clueless when I told him I wanted to insure my kayak, but he assured me that my home policy wouldnt cover boats. I got my policy through Farmer's. It costs less than $50/ year, but I recall it would have cost more if I covered the full value. I'm sure there are better policies out there, when I insured the boat last year I was leaving on a trip and needed something in a hurry. > >I'd like to know more about insuring my boats. One of the nice things about a folding boat is the ability to put it away, out of sight. One of the bad things about a folding boat is the ability to put it away, out of sight. Do any of you know what coverage there is if you check a folding boat as luggage on the plane and it disappears? My wife's and my Romanys are insured through State Farm for $24 a year each. I don't recall whether it is full coverage or not, but I think it is. Several years ago my canoe was totaled in a car accident. State Farm covered it, but I can't recall whther it was under my comprehensive auto policy or my renter's policy -- probably the latter, since State Farm paid the replacement cost. Generally, you can schedule sports equipment, including kayaks under you homeowners policy which would then provide full coverage...this is true in FL, although each carrier may handle a little differently...check with your agent... if your agent is clueless on this issue... your Kayak may be the least of your problems...
