I want to start ocean surfing. I have been a SK paddler until now but my boat is like driving a tractor trailer in the surf. I have talked to some locals that say the Nekey Jive and Rip are great. Are these a bit forgiving for someone not accustomed to surfing a short boat? I like the idea of being able to use them in whitewater too ....when the time comes. I also hear the Wilderness Systems Alamak is decent but more geared only to surf and cant cross to whitewater....true? Suggestions? Now, the technical stuff...how to get started. Is this a situation of "just do it" or are there a few things I could do in a new boat to get used to it (say on flat water). Of course I plan on using the roll to the max.
