Hi, To get into better general condition and enjoy paddling and life in general much more get Covert Bailly's book "Fit or Fat". I guess the idea is to gain more lean body mass, i.e. muscle, and pare the weight down. I think that cross training makes a lot of sense, and it seem that is what you are doing.
