"Price levels seem to be nearly half that of gore-tex, would be nice to think that it works as well. I have always been curious whether or not gore-tex price levels were artifiicially higher because there is no equal, or whether it actually is an expensive process to control. Thanks - Dan" My understanding of why Gore-tex is so much more expensive than similar waterproof/breathable items is not so much in the construction of the item but rather the amount of money Gore invests in Research and Development to improve their current items and to create new products (ie. windstopper, dry-loft, submersible gore-tex and medical grade gore-tex). Gore also has an extensive testing program to ensure the mulitude of companies that use their products meet their quality standards. Do take the above statement with a grain of salt, as I was told this by a gore-tex rep when I challenged them on the prices of their garments. It does seem logical to me though when I consider the advancements Gore-tex has made over the years and the new innovations they have brought to the marketplace, where other companies have usually copied existing products.
