Reminds me of the time when I was on a paddling trip in Northern Minnesota. I had just taken out, and all of my clothes were pretty stinky, so I thought that I would wander around the small town where we were staying in search of a laundry. As luck would have it, I found a place called "Sam Ting's Laundry". I went inside and was welcomed by the proprietor, who spoke with a thick Norwegian accent, and who introduced himself as Sam Ting. Having lived in Norway myself, I thought that his name was a bit unusual, since I couldn't recall meeting a single Norwegian with the name Ting (or with the name Sam, for that matter). I thus asked him how he came by his name, and he proceeded to tell me the following story (in his heavily-accented English): "Vell, ven I got off de boat and stoood in line, dey asked de first man, 'Vat's your name?', and he said 'Ole Olsen'. And den dey asked de second man, 'Vat's your name?' and he also said 'Ole Olsen'. And den dey asked me, 'Vat's your name?', and I said 'sam ting'! So there you have it! Dan Hagen "Man burde ikke spøke med norsk humor." (One ought not to joke about Norwegian humor.) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Sun Mar 28 1999 - 23:34:24 PST
