Anyone aware of any other paddling archives on the net? I thought I'd collect and post the addresses in one place. Can't have too many sources of information. Looks like www.dejanews.com has pretty much bit the dust. The search option is still there but it looks like you have to register to browse the Usenet archives and I'm not willing to do that, even with an email account that will be obsolete 30 days from now. For what it's worth, I've found that using the Dejanews search engine let's me effectively "browse" without registering. -Saul -----Original Message----- From: Sisler, Clyde <Clyde.Sisler_at_wang.com> To: 'Paddlewise' <paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net> Date: Wednesday, May 19, 1999 6:09 AM Subject: [Paddlewise] Other archives >Anyone aware of any other paddling archives on the net? Supposedly if you have an archive of the old dejanews html you can still use that to get the old interface to work. Don't know whether your looking for mailing list/usenet archives or link farms: links list maintained by the Norwegian Canoe Association is huge: http://www.nif.idrett.no/padling/worlda.html There used to be a server that archived a number of mailing lists and usenet, although I haven't used it for a while. Seems to be down at the moment, but may be what you are looking for: http://www.reference.com > Looks like www.dejanews.com has pretty much bit the dust. The new Dejanews interface is a bit of a pain, but you can make it perform pretty much like the old one by choosing the 'power search' option from the top right of the home page (or going directly to: http://www.deja.com/home_ps.shtml) and then choosing 'Deja Classic' from the 'Results type' drop down list box. Voila! the good 'ol dejanews search results you know and love, and no registration required. However, if you use "power search" and "Deja Classic" under "results type" it's still somewhat useable. However, I don't think they're doing as good a job of picking up posts as they used to do. -- Wes *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
