Northwest Outdoor Center is right on lake union and you can have a nice
(urban) paddle right from their docks.  If you want to get out on the
sound you can make some nice one way trips using the ferrys.  But for
that you'll have to transport the kayaks your self. 

Eddyline is in Anacortes and rents their kayaks.  They are right on the
water so you are saved the difficulty of transsport.
