The Seda Glider might be just the boat. Its not perfect, but its fast enough for racing and big enough for serious touring. I am built similarly to your friend (I'm 5'8" 220 pounds) and I find the Glider to be very comfortable. Its also relatively cheap. I think you can get a Kevlar version of the Glider for under $2000. Tell him to get it with the rudder option.
