I have a Rule 1100 pump and a 12 volt 7 amp-hour lead acid gel cell battery
in my boat. Battery weight is about 6 1/2 lbs. Now that I have solved the
water in the switch problem I reported in the earlier thread the pump works
great. At low voltage the pump will run at less than its rated capacity,
but it will still be much faster than hand or foot pumping. An electric
pump also lets you focus on keeping the boat stable a definite advantage
with a boat that is unstable due to a cockpit full of water.

I have used my pump with gel cells rated as low as 1.2 amp hours and had the
pump work fine. The Atwood pump in the SK article draws much less amperage
than my pump but uses about the same amount of power to drain the kayak. It
has something to do with laws of physics. My setup is also different than
the one in the article in that I have a fuse in the circuit.

I like many of the ideas in the SK article. I am going to move my battery
to the rear compartment and put the switch on the backdeck.

How did you solve that? I can't find mention of it.
