    This is a very common commodity for open boaters.  Both Nantahala
Outdoor Center and Northwest River Supply have this in their catalogs.  It
will range from 64 to 75 cents per foot.  I usually use 3/8 to 1/2 inch
diameter.  Less than that could cut into your hands under tension, and a
thicker rope is easier to grasp in cold conditions.
    Both mail order dealers have other sizes in stock for various purposes.
