I've been up there once and kayaked around the lake.  It's very pretty
with primitive camping areas nearby in the tall pines.  A word of 
warning from the local ranger, if you are paddling out on the lake,
stay close to shore unless highly experienced as winds can suddenly
kick up.  They can be quite fierce.   Also, the concentration of salt
in the water is quite high.  You'll have a lot of cleaning to do when
you get home 8-}

Leaving them unattended where?  I'd check with the ranger station at
the entry to the park for feedback on any problems such as that.
