Put in at dawn and plan on being out before noon. Some wicked winds start up in the afternoon and it can get dangerously choppy. You can put in boats at Navy Pier (beach?) on the south side of the lake. This is about a quarter mile or so from some tufa. Read the sign before you go in as certain times of year the islands are off limits do to nesting birds. Morning is a beautiful time, the lake is like glass and the water is clear a long ways down. On your way through Yosemite, you might also enjoy putting in at any of a number of the lakes. They're small but nice to putter around in. Have fun, deb >Has anyone been kayaking on Mono Lake?
