I would agree that my post was somewhat negative. Actually, I had limited exposure to some of these situations, such as the reasturant thing. Also, I had nothing to compare it to, as I have not been recently. My post did indicate that my report was based on my own observation. Those observations also include the comments I heard about me, as I tried to keep my ear to the ground. My comments about the food situation, the registration process, signage, and beach confusion were almost entirely from things others said to me or I overhear. So, Kirby's comments cause me to say, "Hey, don't piss on the messanger - know what I mean? Anyway, the volunteers who organized and ran the event should be praised for their hard work and tireless efforts. I should have mentioned this in my report, but I had my head up in the cloud :-) BC'in Ya Doug Lloyd At 07:23 AM 9/21/99 -0700, you wrote: >As usual Doug is always looking for that one cloud on a clear day. > >This years symposium was just as good as previous years. Yes, there are the occasional glitches especially in registration when 40-50 people show up all at once and want to get registered. Everything is fairly well organized there. As for the food, I will be the first one to say it isn't a four star hotel. The food was OK, not great but, eh you are trying to feed hundreds of people and they do have to know ahead of time so there will be enough. This year the restaurant tried something different instead of the old take a try and filler up, they sat everyone at tables and they were served. At first I thought this was rather dumb, as the weekend went on I began to like it. I found I was able to meet a lot more people than I usually did because you are often sitting with half a dozen strangers and you begin to talk. > >Yes there is a lot of childishness going on with the boat manufacturers, it is unfortunate that they don't participate. Quite frankly in all the years I have been there I can't remember every seeing Mariner Kayaks represented.
