I think you are right but if you are looking at wind coming from behind, then veer off the wind might be one way of describing it. An operational description from my point of view: Bow veers until it is pointing into the wind, like a weathervane. Bill, You are right, weathercocking is technically the tendency of the boat to turn into the wind (like a weathervane). Lee helm is the opposite condition, also bad. I was sloppy in my terminology. I wanted a general term for a boat which is out of ballance in relation to the wind.
