My understanding is that there is a 15% surcharge which is refundable if you
bring the boat into the US. I have no idea how that works but Current Designs
told me something of this when I was talking about getting a Gulfstream up there.
Maybe contact a retailer up there and they can tell you or contact the Canadian
government in the area you plan to bring it back from. If this is private there
be no issues at all. We don't have taxes on private transactions down here and it
may be the same up there. You may just have a friend drive it back and need no
papers or anything. I'd guess this is more likely the case. They may just need a
bill of sale but most likely not. I wouldn't think to have one if I was planning
on crossing the border to paddle.
