I've been trying to think of some decorative covering ( a tropical shower
curtain, perhaps? optical illusion!) for the three 12-15 ft boats hanging on
the patio wall.

(Hardy's carpeted brackets work great. http://members.aol.com/ghardypro
He has two types).

This week I put the three 9-footers on the ground in the patio. So guests
will now have a view of 6 boats from the dining room. And then there's still
one on the rear deck. :)

My nephew (3 kids) moved to a lakefront house. I'm thinking (if I can work
up the courage to part with them) of offering him two of the smaller ones on
an indefinite loan basis.

My living room has huge walls. Peak ceiling height is about 20 feet.
I've been trying to talk my wife into the proposition that a 1972 Munich
Olympics Slalom Kayak, which I just happen to have, would be a wonderful
piece of art to hang. So far, I've had no luck. Advice appreciated.

BTW, it's orange. Also, it's a Klepper.

I'm running into similar kayak storage problems. I want to mount my kayak on
the wall or from the ceiling of my studio apartment so that it's not sitting
in the middle of the floor in front of my fireplace. I have a high ceiling
but old plastered walls so I don't think a pulley-system will work for me.
Unless it's easy to find studs in old ceilings? Perhaps some sort of
pedestal-type solution will work. Any suggestions?

ps: Sandy- The link for Hardy's brackets didn't work for me - is that the
correct address?

Steve...
The color may be what's causing the problem. Also, the girls around my
house ( wife and daughters only ) will allow any shape, any color as long
as they think the object is an incense burner, or some kind of candle
holder. Of course if you fill that boat with lit candles inside you're
more than likely to get a visit from your local Fire Dept ! Good luck !

Hey, I'm almost outta here for a 4 ...count'em ...4 day weekend. "Hike
afew trails; paddle few creeks, ...get down tonite ...get down tonite !"

And, a Happy Vets Day to all you ex-grunts, rotor-heads, and jet-jocks

Negative. I'm the mechanically and technically challenged one, remember? I
like the suggestion of using it as a planter - perhaps with silk flowers? :)

Seriously, is the wall long enough? The following might work even if you
have to hang it diagonally!

Nobody (I think) has mentioned the straps that have a hook (that goes into a
round "eye" for example. Once attached to the wall or even a beam, you open
the "fastex" buckle and insert the boat. You can then hang another set of
straps (mit boat) to the upper strap set-up. I got mine at CampMor a few
years back - about $17/pair.

Guess not. I tried also. See page 67 of the 12/99 Sea Kayaker (he
advertises all the time). Right side, Wall Storage Systems Telephone # is
888-202-8043 Tom Hardy. I think I paid about $35/pair and a local
outfitter thought that was very good because someone else had offered some
for sale at $70.

I called and left him a message that we weren't able to connect.

Nah, no one is envious. The place is filled with too many of those damn
Cubans. :-)
