Dear Paddlers,

The Greenland Kayaking Association, Qaannat Kattuffiat, has obtained a
sponsor to allow free shipment of kayaks from the US and Canada to
Greenland for anyone (competitors and spectators) who pay the event
registration fee and journey to Greenland for the upcoming Greenland
kayaking championships in July. The registration fee will be approximately
$260.00 US and will cover lodging and all meals. Additional details of the
competition including a FAQ can be found on the "Unofficial Greenland Kayak
Association" page at http://www.magicnet.net/~gstamer/QK.html.

Two containers will be made available, one in Norfolk, Va and the other in
Shelbourne harbour, Canada. Each container can hold approximately 15-20
kayaks and perhaps some miscellaneous gear. Eimskip
(http://www.eimskip.com) is the freight company that has graciously agreed
to ship the kayaks without charge.

The bottom line; the Greenlanders and Eimskip have done more than their
share, now it is up to us. The American and Canadian teams both need a
club, commercial outfitter or volunteers near Norfolk, Va and Shelbourne,
Canada willing to accept the challenge of receiving and safely storing
kayaks awaiting shipment, building a wooden rack inside the container to
secure the kayaks, loading the kayaks into the container for shipment and
unloading them upon their return. A diagram of the rack that the
Greenlanders use is being sent to me by Hans Kleist-Thomassen of the Nuuk
kayak club and I will pass this on to the volunteers.

This will be hard work and perhaps apart from trying to collect some
limited funds to help build the rack, the participants who live far from
these ports can only reward your effort with a sincere Thank-You. I will be
happy to mention your contributions on any press-releases, event articles,
and on the webpage.

Please reply to me directly and feel free to forward this note to anyone
who may be interested in lending a hand.

Thanks for your assistance!

Greg Stamer
