The info with my knife (Sea Quest EZ-Lock) says to use
steel wool.  I haven't tried it yet, I'll see if it works.
I suspect that the surface rust will come off, but there
will be a corrosion mark underneath (dull spot).

I never completely removed the spots of my River Shorty
either, after paddling in Nova Scotia a couple of years ago.
